Happy 1st birthday Poppy!08.11.11

My little girl turns one today (well, technically tonight, at 11.10pm). On the weekend we had a little party at a local park and she got showered with gifts and love.

My wonderful friend Ju’eta made the AMAZING very hungry little caterpillar cake – a theme I chose because Poppy devours practically everything we put in front of her. Lucky I only offer her healthy stuff!

But back to the cake… the body was made of vanilla and raspberry swirl cake and the head was chocolate cake. It was piped all over with swiss meringue buttercream in two shades of green, one of which was whipped up nice and bubbly to resemble caterpillar fur. Phew!

It was an absolute masterpiece and I want to publicly give the lovely Ju’eta a big THANK YOU with hugs and kisses. You’re the best!

Of course I had to let Poppy try some. Can you tell if she liked it? Hehe. For more cake pictures hop on over to my food blog.

For those of you who are wondering about that scary green stain, it has been soaked and cleaned out completely :)

    What a GREAT cake! Poppy is just adorable. How did you create the intense colouring? I have been to a kids party where a little too much food dye was used so it looked like there were little smurfs running around!!! Cakes & parties create such fond memories…. well done!
